To get an impression of the work we are doing, below is a list of selected projects previously successfully delivered by WWEC consistent with the clients expectations. 

Preparation of Resettlement Action Plan for substations and distribution power lines under energy sector support project

Client       :  Electricity Supply Cooperation of Malawi (ESCOM)

Year         :2016-2018

The project's scope encompasses multiple facets aimed at enhancing the electrical distribution and transmission infrastructure. This includes the establishment of new distribution and transmission substations with associated feeders and tie lines to integrate them into the existing system. Additionally, upgrades were made to existing substations to augment their transformation capacity and increase the number of feeders for improved efficiency. New 33kV and 11kV distribution power lines will be constructed to facilitate the efficient transfer of electricity.

The project involves the implementation of a Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) in response to the impacts of a development project. The project area encompasses the affected region, including communities, land, and resources. The key components of the project include the development of a legal framework for the RAP, identification of potential positive and negative impacts with corresponding mitigation measures, mechanisms for asset and livelihood protection, socioeconomic studies, eligibility criteria for compensation, conflict resolution mechanisms, valuation of compensations, and a comprehensive framework for monitoring and reporting on the implementation of resettlement activities.

Environmental and Social Impact Assessment for Construction of a new 400kV Overhead Transmission Power Line from Phombeya (Balaka District) to nkhoma (Lilongwe District) in Malawi

This project involved Conducting baseline studies including stakeholder consultations and biodiversity assessment, providing project alternatives; and Preparing an Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) and monitoring plan (MP) for implementing the ESMP

Construction of network and house connections in the City of Malanje

Client       :  The Government of Angola
Country   : Angola
Year         : 2019-2020

This is a World Bank funded project aiming at enhancing household water connections in Malanje District in Angola. The project involves lying of water connection pipeline within the City.

 

WWEC reviewed environmental and social safeguard documents to ensure that contractor is complying to the standards outlined in the documents and Assessed Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and sexual harassment (SH) concerns at the work site.

Environmental and Social Management Studies for Nkula A rehabilitation and upgrade

Client       :  Fichtner
Country   : Malawi
Year         :2014

The consultancy was about conducting a detailed environmental assessment of the proposed rehabilitation, upgrade works for Nkula Hydro Power Plant (HHP) to ensure that requisite environmental, and social enhancement or mitigation measures commensurate with national and international standards are recommended. Based on the environmental and social assessment, the consultant prepared an Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) following the Malawi Environmental guidelines and regulations, the MCC Guidelines and IFC Performance Standards. The ESMP provided useful information to the Millennium

Corporate Social Responsibility Feasibility Study for a Solar Photovoltaic Project in Salima

Client       :  ERM Kenya

Year         :2017-2018

The project components included; conducting an appropriate technology feasibility study to evaluate off-and micro grid and standalone solar system for the communities surrounding Salima.

For this project the following activities were conducted: Conducting analysis to find the most impactful Cooperate Social Responsibility (CSR) program for the Salima District, synchronizing with the community liaison officer to determine the community’s accurate needs, coordinating research including a household survey, stakeholder consultation, key informant interviews, and focus group discussions, Developing report highlighting findings and make an educated recommendation of a CSR program; and Preparing reports highlighting interdependencies and integration between eventual proposed CSR initiative and Project.

Environmental and Social Impact Assessment for Chimgonda & Mpatamanga Hydropower Plants

This was a Malawi Government funded project, in this project WWEC conducted desktop review and field investigations, Public consultation, Identification of projects impacts and mitigation measures, analyzing project alternatives; and, Writing the ESIA report
